About Merbromin
Merbromin is an organomercury dye derived from fluorescein. The crystals are bright green with a metallic lustre and dissolve in water to give a red solution with a green fluorescence.
Because it carries both bromine and mercury, every batch is tested for both, along with identification and loss on drying.

Storage & handling
A mercury compound: store securely and handle with care
- Toxic. Keep in the original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry, well-ventilated and locked store.
- Protect from light, and keep away from acids, ammonia and other incompatible materials.
- Avoid raising dust. Wear gloves, eye protection and suitable respiratory protection, and wash after handling.
- Collect spills and waste for disposal as hazardous waste, following local rules. Shipped as dangerous goods.
