Overview

About Mercuric Iodide

Mercuric Iodide is a bright red crystalline powder, almost insoluble in water but soluble in potassium iodide solution, where it forms the tetraiodomercurate ion.

That solution is Nessler's reagent, the classic test for ammonia. We test every batch for mercurous mercury, soluble mercury salts and chloride.
